I installed the DVD player on OpenSuse 12 and it does not start, what's happening ?

Fluendo's DVD player requires libpng12 to work properly. As distributions are slowly transitioning from libpng12 to libpng14 we are in a situation where it's hard to support every distribution. You can install libpng12 on OpenSuse as they provide a package for it and this should fix the problem.

I can't hear voices while my DVD is playing back. What's happening ?

The Fluendo DVD player is probably trying to output 5.1 audio channels to your sound card because it claimed (the sound card) that it supports it but you are probably only earing the 2 front channels. To fix that please force the DVD player into stereo downmix mode in the Audio tab of the Preferences window.

Some discs can not play with an error saying something like "Could not read NAV pack..."

This can mean different things : the disc is damaged or dirty, the DVD drive lens is damaged or dirty, or the disc uses some special protection tricks to protect from ripping programs. Please make sure your disk is clean and not scratched, try to clean your DVD drive lens (if it's not brand new) and if that still fails, please report the exact DVD title to our support form.

Does the DVD player support remote controls through LIRC ?

Almost, we've created an extensive DBUS API to remote control the DVD player. LIRC support will follow shortly.

Software support period

Fluendo DVD Player comes with one year of support period included in the price.

What is a support period?

It's a period of time during which you have access to newer versions of the product, including all improvements and bugfixes. You will always be able to download the latest version of all the versions released before the end date of your support period.

Can I extend support period?

Yes. The cost of extension is much less than the cost of a new product.

What happens when my support period ends?

You still have access to the latest version which has been released during the support period. However, the versions released after the support had expired will be inaccessible for you.

How much time do I have to extend my support?

You have a grace period of 365 days after your support has expired. During that time it's possible to extend it with a special discount. If you don't do it before the end of grace period, the only way to gain access to newer versions is to buy the product again for a full price.

What are the discounts for support extension?

For Fluendo DVD Player you have the following extensions available:

  • 1 year
    EUR 5.00
  • 2 years
    EUR 8.80
  • 5 years
    EUR 19.00

I've been waiting for this. Works wonderfully. I'm very happy with it.

Jens Hartwig — July 12, 2009 — Rating 3/5

Changing the Volume doesn't work ("Could not decode stream"), it uses the native GTK+-Look and bad integration into my KDE 4 Desktop.

Hoping for Updates :)!

Che Kristo — July 27, 2009

Very much looking forward to the OpenSolaris version...any chance of getting an estimate by when we will have it?

Andrius Burlega — July 30, 2009 — Rating 1/5

That is a fraud. The player does not work.

Peter Tran — August 6, 2009

Where is the new update

Carlo Verzeletti — August 7, 2009

Does not work. Useless. Will not detect sound card!!!! Everything else on the computer detects and uses sound card perfectly

Mary Warren — August 8, 2009

Please Please release the OpenSolaris version!!!!!!!!!!!

stephen mirowski — August 8, 2009 — Rating 3/5

I like it, but I think there is room for growth. It's more than a 3/5 but not a 4 yet. I am sure in a few updates or releases it will be a 4/5. Hope to see Blu-Ray soon.

Dave Lyon — September 8, 2009 — Rating 4/5

A couple minor issues in the UI but works great- glad I bought it. Full review at http://eazely.com/apps/fluendo-dvd-player

Jan Ekbom — September 12, 2009

Same here, I also wait for the OpenSolaris version.

Michael Barlow — September 27, 2009

So far this product is not working for me on Moblin 2.0 release version. I don't know if the cause if Fluendo or Moblin so I can't offer a rating. I wouldn't recommend buying it to use with Moblin at this stage.

Gaston Salinas — October 6, 2009 — Rating 1/5

This is a FRAUD. It does not even start.

Paul Swanson — October 16, 2009

Have been using it on Ubuntu since its release, has worked great. Naturally there is room for improvement in the interface but overall I've found it to be reliable. Don't come and cry here if you have some niche Linux distribution and it doesn't play nice.

Tyler Bouchard — November 2, 2009 — Rating 4/5

So far a great product. Only been testing a few minutes and already it's playing Pirates of the Caribbean quite admirably. Although Jean's statement above seems to be correct on my system as well. However if you run the program with sudo [sudo fluendo-dvd] it will start up and play in 9.10. Because of this issue, I'll have to knock it down a star...but given I'm already pleased within a few minutes...I'll still have to give it a 4.

Philip Brown — November 13, 2009 — Rating 5/5

bought opensolaris version - works excellent

Mark Villa — November 14, 2009

What role do I need? It only works
as 'root' for me (and maybe some others).

Robert Monical — November 17, 2009

OpenSolaris version wants me to install OpenSoundSystem from here. http://www.opensound.com/download.cgi
I can download the sources and build it myself or purchase it prebuilt for $49.99 US. That was certainly a disappointment.

So when I open the DVD, it cannot attach to the sound system.

Mathew Coddington — November 27, 2009

Ivaylo Mateev — January 12, 2010 — Rating 5/5

It works fine, there were some issues with permissions, but nothing serious. And the support is great. IT IS DEFINITELY NO FRAUD, it is a good Product.

Karl Rinne — January 23, 2010 — Rating 5/5

Works fine for me (Opensuse 11.2, Gnome). I've wasted too much time in the past with various alternative options. Thank you.

Alexander Verba — February 11, 2010 — Rating 5/5

Really good and useful product. Good support. It works good (if tune) also on VIA HP mini 2133 notebook in OpenSUSE 11.2 Linux.

Paul Duffy — February 18, 2010 — Rating 5/5

Just installed this on OpenSolaris b132 (soon to be 2010.03), works a treat, just watching Full Metal Jacket now.

Fluend DVD Player is a MUST for all Linux users.. I use it under Mandriva 2010 64 bit and it is amazing.

Mark Dewey — March 25, 2010 — Rating 5/5

Awesome product. I use it on Ubuntu (Karmic Koala, 64-bit) on my Compaq Presario CQ60-212US Notebook PC, and it works great.

It beats the pants off of PowerDVD, and it comes in 64-bit! It's fast and smooth. Plus, there's a Windows version, now. That's always nice if you need to switch for some reason or other. I haven't tried the Windows version yet, though.

I have a suggestion, however:
Add more keyboard shortcuts (even ones that work within full-screen mode). I'd love to be able to fast forward, rewind, skip tracks, go to the main menu, turn sub-titles on and off and all that without having to use the mouse (and without having to leave full-screen mode).

Fortunately, leaving full-screen mode doesn't mess things up, and there's no lag in doing so.

The picture and sound are both great. I didn't have problems there.

Thanks for the great product! It's nice to be able to watch encrypted DVDs in 64-bit Linux without violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act!

Pascal de Bruijn — May 1, 2010 — Rating 5/5

I'm using the Fluendo DVD Player on Ubuntu Lucid (AMD64), and it works as expected.

Duane Hawkins — May 2, 2010 — Rating 3/5

Running on OpenSolaris B134.

Seems to work well with most DVDs, but fails to play DVDs with RCE region protection (Spiderman, Snatch are two that I tried). Instead a region map is displayed, along with the message "This disc is intended for play on non-modified region 1 players," though the region on the drive is set to Region 1, with 4 changes remaining.

The ability to play ISO images would be nice.

Monica W. — July 9, 2010

Does not work with openSUSE 11.2
an inert menu is displayed, but it will not play. I want plugins for Totem player.

JEAN FIGUEIREDO — October 12, 2010

I found the problem:
Fluendo the DVD does not find the dvd disc properly. But if he starts typing at the command prompt:
# Fluendo-dvd / dev / dvd the movie starts normally in amd64 ubuntu 10:10.

Mike Brazier — December 4, 2010 — Rating 5/5

That makes a refreshing change!

I just downloaded this for use on Fedora 12 X86_64. It installed and worked fine.

Took me a couple of minutes to figure out that prefs have to be set for things like region before it will do much and you have to have a DVD in the drawer before you can set this but it works brilliantly.

Top marks, especially for providing a package which just works without any problems.

keith richardson — January 2, 2011 — Rating 4/5

Just installed it on an Atom D510 running Ubuntu 10.10, display at 720p.

Playback was fine; no skipping when running at normal speed, though going to 4x speed was problematic (could be the low-end system Im using though).

The interface is somewhat basic, could use some improvement (more keybindings, etc). Does get the job done.

Tyler Melton — January 23, 2011 — Rating 1/5

Installed on Ubuntu 10.10 64bit. Crashes instantly upon trying to play a movie. This was a complete waste of my money.
